The porcelain plates measure 8" with a 4.5 diameter come with a black display easel. The glazed images and text from the Code Noir articles depict the actual experiences of histroic African persons put in enslavement. The plates recall the abolishionist propoganda intended to secure freedom for capitive persons but the dishes also are in a historical dialog with the china commissioned by rich, slave-holding families that depict daily scenes on plantations. Place on china cups and dinner plates, these scenes included African working the in fields and being routinely tortured. These items are for display only.
